Rwanda A Stepping Stone For Malaysian Firms To African, Mid-east Marts
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Rwanda, a member of the East Africa Community (EAC), is a good stepping stone for Malaysian companies to expand to the African continent as well as the Middle East.
National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia secretary general, Datuk Syed Hussein Al Habshee, said the EAC planned to set up free trade zones in order to accomplish their vision of common market and common Custom by December 2009.
"The EAC, which also includes Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi, has a population of over 900 million.
"By venturing into Rwanda, Malaysian companies will be able to enhance bilateral trade with the African nations," he said after signing a cooperation agreement with Private Sector Federation of Rwanda (PSF).
Meanwhile, PSF president, Robert Bayigamba, said Rwanda's building sector would be attractive for Malaysian companies to invest.
"They can go for construction of infrastructures, hotels and houses," he said.
Bayigamba is leading a 30-member delegation to participate in the International Trade Malaysia 2007 exhibition.
